The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is reviewing its social grant payment dates for November, following the scheduling of the local government elections on 4 November 2026.
The agency has moved to reassure beneficiaries, stressing that there is no cause for concern and that all eligible recipients will receive their grants.
November payment dates under review
In a statement, SASSA explained that the payment schedule for the 2026-27 financial year was announced in March 2026, after approval by the National Treasury.
Under the original schedule, payments were set to roll out as follows:
| Date | Grant Type |
|---|---|
| 3 November | Older Persons Grant | 4 November | Disability Grant | 5 November | Children’s Grant | 6 November | Beneficiaries whose grants are under review |
However, this schedule is now being reconsidered in light of the election announcement.
Election date prompts the review
In May 2026, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the local government elections would take place on 4 November — the same day the Disability Grant was originally due to be paid.
“Against this background, the payment cycle for November is being reviewed in view of the upcoming Local Government Elections,” SASSA said.
“SASSA, after consultation with the relevant stakeholders, will announce the new arrangement in due course.”
The agency added that it remains committed to paying the correct social grant to each beneficiary.
